Yes, that is what I’m saying, new GoGrid account for development environment. You could, conceivably, set up a VPN tunnel between the two environments as well.

Again, I will mention the 3 Load Balancer limit to our Product team.

Thanks,
Michael
Yes, we are setting up an isolated test environment. All the resources it uses are completely separate from our main environment. "Out of the box" GoGrid gives us 10 ip addresses, so we can easily setup say 4 machines for our main environment and 2 for a test environment. The one scarce resource is load balancers. A limit of 3 seems arbitrarily low, given the other cloud resources available.

Or are you suggesting we sign up for a completely separate GoGrid account just to get more load balancers for a test environment?

Hi Jeremy,

One thing that you might want to consider is to set up a completely separate development and/or test environment and truly isolate your production from those. Many companies find that by setting up mirrored environments, they are better able to mimic real-world scenarios within these isolated environments. While that does mean that you have to get additional SSL certs, it may be worth your while considering that as an option.

I will be sure to mention your concern about the 3 Load Balancer limit to our Product team.

Thanks,
Michael
One of the GoGrid hooks is free hardware loadbalancing, but the catch is you only get 3 loadbalancers - and you need a separate loadblancer for HTTP and SSL traffic. So if your site uses SSL, you need to use two of the 3 available load balancers to get your site running. We're hitting this limit as we'd like to have a second test/spare/backup domain setup that parallels the configuration of our main site for testing and development (and as a backup). It would be great if you bumped the 3 loadbalancer limit to 4 to allow for this.

There will be some solutions for allowing cloud-like scalability with dedicated servers in the future. That should take care of most downsides to this. On-demand, pay-as-you-go, etc.

With regards to managed services we have a number of partners who provide this expertise and are well versed in building robust cloud architectures. Recommend you check with your sales folks for recommendations.
